Malta

Malta, this island country in the center of the Mediterranean, has become a popular choice for immigrants due to its unique advantages.

Why

  • Malta is in the Mediterranean center, a hub connecting Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The climate is pleasant and scenery beautiful, known as the "Heart of the Mediterranean".

  • Malta is in the EU; holding a Maltese passport allows you to live, work, and study freely in 29 EU countries, enjoying EU benefits.

  • Malta has complete infrastructure, excellent healthcare, and first-class education, with relatively low living costs, making it ideal for residence.

Main Immigration Pathways

1. Malta Permanent Residence Program (MPRP)

The Malta Permanent Residence Program (MPRP) is a highly sought-after route for obtaining long-term residency in Malta. Applicants are required to purchase or rent qualifying property and fulfill specific investment requirements, which include asset verification, charitable donations, and government fees. The program allows flexibility between buying property in Malta or Gozo or opting for a rental arrangement, each with corresponding donation thresholds. Successful applicants and their families gain permanent residency, providing them with the right to live indefinitely in Malta and enjoy the benefits of EU residence.

2. Malta Citizenship by Investment Program (MIIP)

Through Malta’s Citizenship by Investment Program, eligible individuals can acquire Maltese citizenship—and subsequently EU citizenship—by making substantial investments in government bonds, real estate, and charitable contributions. The program requires a period of legal residence, typically 36 months, but can be shortened in special cases. Applicants must also invest in property and make a significant donation, ensuring they contribute to the country’s economy and society before receiving citizenship.

3. Startup Residence Program

Malta’s Startup Residence Program targets entrepreneurs and founders wishing to establish innovative businesses in the country. The initial residence permit is granted for three years, with the possibility of extension for up to five years if the business is successful. Applicants must present a viable business plan, demonstrate sufficient financial resources, invest a minimum amount of paid-up capital, secure health insurance, and have no criminal record. This program is ideal for those aiming to launch and grow startups in Malta’s dynamic business environment.

4. Work Visa

Foreign nationals who secure employment and employer sponsorship in Malta can apply for a work visa, which allows them to live and work in the country. Over time, and upon meeting residency requirements, work visa holders have the option to apply for permanent residency or citizenship, gradually integrating into Maltese society and benefiting from the country’s stable economy and lifestyle.
